Why we picked the Aeron
Our pick for the best office chair is the Aeron. Herman Miller made a name for itself in 1994 when it released what would become the standard for ergonomic chairs — the Aeron. It features several adjustments not found on your average office chair, including a Tilt Limiter and Forward Tilt. When properly adjusted along with the other settings, the result is a level of comfort and quality comparable to that of a luxury sports car. The breathable mesh back does an excellent job of dispelling heat, while the pivoted armrests are firm, but nicely cushioned. The tension can be adjusted so you can lean back without feeling like you’ll fall out of the chair.
For lower back support, the Aeron offers the PostureFit and Lumbar options. While both of these do a fantastic job, we felt that the upper back support could be improved. The backrest also has individual supports that allow the chair to conform to your movement and to shape of your back – a welcome feature for those extended work sessions.
Herman Miller claims that the curved shape allows for better blood flow. This is mostly true, but there are several caveats. Firstly, the proper model size (A, B, or C) that best fits your height and weight must be chosen. Some users have noticed a cut off in blood flow in the legs if the wrong size is used. Thankfully, Herman Miller offers a chart on their website to help you determine which is best for you. Secondly, the chair must be setup for initial use using the included instructional video.
Once all settings are adjusted to fit your body, the Aeron offers unparalleled comfort that will last through the longest of work days.
Both stylish and sturdy, the Aeron’s rigid frame is constructed from hard graphite, while the back is made of pellicle mesh. The quality of materials used ensure that this chair is built to last.
It also doesn’t hurt that it’s extremely aesthetically pleasing to look at; with gentle curves and simplistic design. Another subtle feature that may easily go unnoticed — it’s quiet. There’s none of the creaking or squeaking that come often accompanies lower quality chairs.
If you’re concerned about the environmental friendliness of the Aeron, it uses 42% recycled materials, and the whole chair is 95% recyclable.
We’re not the only ones who believe the Aeron is the Best Office Chair. In Gizmodo’s review, they called it “the best chair they’ve ever sat on”.
If you’re looking for a chair that offers excellent Comfort, Support, Movement, Breathibility, and Build Quality, you can’t do better than the Aeron.
